Wednesday Trends - Sponging

Hi everyone! Happy Wednesday!

I'm here with you today to share a Wednesday Trend with you! One of my most FAVORITE things to do on my focal images is sponging, so I thought I would show you how I do it!!!

As you can see here in the first picture, I masked and stamped the balloons from Aim For The Clouds by There She Goes and I colored them with Copic Markers.

At this point, the two panels are the same.

Next, I put the Nestabilities die back onto the panel and starting with Memento Canteloupe, I lightly sponge around the entire edge of the Nestabilities die.

You can already see how the ink has given the image a bit more depth.

For the third step, I sponge again, this time using Memento Tangelo. I go VERY lightly with this darker color, as I just want to accent the edge.

Here is a side by side view. You can see the original panel which I did not sponge, and the panel that was sponged with both Memento Canteloupe and Memento Tangelo.

I used the sponged image to create the card you see here! I used one of Jen's SFYTT sketches for the layout!
As a rule, I generally use the Memento Canteloupe and Memento Tangelo, but you can certainly use any color...even match it to your card!!! I personally think that sponged focal images just finish off a card and give it a little extra "something".

I hope I have inspired you to add a bit of sponging to your next project!!
Thanks SO much for stopping by!

  1. Thanks for the cool tutorial Jodi - I can always improve my sponging skills! I was wondering though - what do you use to get the ink off of the Nestabilities die? Does it ever come off on other paper? Thanks again!

  3. Thanks for refreshing the 'memory banks' on this one. Your card is gorgeous and the images really do stand out so much better with the soft sponging added to them.
